Mediating Effects of Mindfulness on the Relationship between Smart-Phone Addiction and Anxiety

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to confirm the mediating effect of mindfulness on the relationship between smart-phone addiction and anxiety. Research participants included 326 college students. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS 20.0 program for correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and the Sobel test. Results of this study were as follows: First, although smart-phone addiction and anxiety were positively correlated, a negative correlation was identified with relation to mindfulness. A negative correlation was also found in the relationship between anxiety and mindfulness. Second, college student"s mindfulness exhibited a partial mediation effect on the relationship between smart-phone addiction and anxiety. The results of this study suggest that mindfulness could help prevent smart-phone addiction and anxiety among college students. Findings and implications are discussed.
